Library Mission Statement

"The mission of the Anne Potter Wilson Music Library is to support the curricular needs for research, teaching, and performance of the Vanderbilt student, faculty and pre-college communities, provide access to print and electronic resources relating to music in a variety of formats, empower users with the information-seeking skills necessary for the lifelong pursuit of learning, and offer high-quality service in an inclusive, relevant, and up-to-date learning environment." Know Your Surroundings:    

  • Current Periodicals/Journals – Next to the listening/viewing stations
  • Miniature Scores – Shelved on the wall behind the Reference Material
  • Oversize Scores – Located in the hallway on the way to the printer and across from the lounge area past the computing desks
  • Scores – Located in the Scores wing of the Music Library. Reference Scores (M1s and M2s) are first, and then Circulating scores continue and curve around to the left.
  • Reference Section– Located in the area directly in front of the reference desk (near the entrance of the library).
  • Books – Located in between the study tables and listening stations. This includes A – L, and N – Z.
  • Book Stacks (ML-MT)- Located in the back of the library, past the study tables.
  • CDs, DVDs, LPs, Videos, and Cassettes – Most audiovisual materials have been moved to our offsite storage facility, the annex. Users can request these materials to be brought in and pick them up from the service desk.
  • Reserves – Print reserves are located on the shelves behind the circulation desk.
  • New Books – Located on the corner of the circulation desk.

Heard Library Mission Statement

The Jean and Alexander Heard Libraries are fundamental to the university’s goal of advancing scholarship and learning. We collect, preserve and make accessible a wide variety of resources, we partner with faculty and students to shape research, and we encourage the development of informed scholars and engaged citizens.
