Alma has multiple pop-ups notices related to item and user status that must be acknowledged in order to continue checking in items. One should always watch the screen for these alerts during check-in, in addition to watching the screen to ensure that each returned item appears in the list of returned items. Carelessly scanning items without acknowledging alerts or waiting for the system to process will result a failure to check-in all returned items.
For some libraries or divisions with large collections of multi-unit items, checking for associated materials ("pieces"; see the first Item alert below) will be the norm. CD & DVD containers should always be opened to ensure all discs are included and not damaged.
POP-UP NOTICES:
PIECES COUNT: When an item has multiple pieces, such as a multi-disk set of DVD's or a book with inserts such as maps, you will be asked to note the number of pieces. Count to ensure all the pieces are present before confirming.
HOLD NOTIFICATIONS: If an item has been requested for pick-up by another user at the location you are working at, checking-in the item will generate a Hold Notification. Write the user's name on a slip of paper (Lastname, First Name) and place it on the hold shelf by the user's last name.
TRANSIT ALERTS: If an item is needed at another library or location, a Transit Alert will appear, informing you of where you need to send the item. You should write the name of the destination library on a piece of paper and put in the appropriate mail bin.
BLOCKED USER ACCOUNT: When a user reaches the limit of fines, checkouts, and/or overdues, their account gets blocked. Do not override to allow checkouts. Get a supervisor that is scheduled during that time.
