Limits on Hours at Work

Undergraduate and all International students are limited to a 19 hours per week, inclusive of all campus positions, while school is in session. Students may work up to 40 hours per week over holiday and summer breaks.

Graduate/ Professional students are limited to 29.5 hours per week, inclusive of all campus positions, while school is in session. Academic programs may have additional restrictions on maximum number of hours worked weekly. Students may work up to 40 hours per week over holiday and summer breaks.

Workplace Rules

1. Be on time, and communicate with your supervisor if you will be late or unable to cover you shift

  • You are responsible for finding a substitute should you not be able to work your scheduled shift. An email list of all students in your department will be made available to you.
  • The Supervisor must be notified of your upcoming absence and who will work as your substitute.

2. ​​Read training materials provided by your supervisor

  • Your primary purpose is to provide high level customer service to our patrons.
  • It is your responsibility to be alert.  Make contact with patrons who may need assistance and respond to any and all inquiries at the desk or by telephone.

3. A paid 15 minute break is optional for staff working more than a 4 hour shift, but less than a 6 hour shift.

  • Your supervisor will provide direction on your break time.
  • Breaks cannot be used to leave early or come in late.
  • 15-minute breaks are not noted on your timesheet.

4. Staff who work a shift of more than 6 hours must take an unpaid, 30 minute meal break.

  • Your supervisor will provide direction on your break time.
  • Meal breaks must be recorded on your time sheet.
  • Meal breaks cannot be used to leave early or come in late.
