While emergencies do not happen frequently, when they do occur it is important to be prepared. If you have any questions please ask your supervisor what your responsibilities may be.

Problem Patrons
If someone is dangerously angry, threatening you or someone else verbally or physically, harassing you, or acting in any other disruptive manner you do not feel comfortable dealing with, immediately contact a supervisor. If you are in a situation in which no full-time staff are available, you should call VUPD (615-421-1911).
Any incident needs to be immediately reported by email to Daisy Whitten (daisy.s.whitten@vanderbilt.edu).

Active Shooter
Refer to this video for an overview of what to do if an active shooter is reported on campus:
If someone needs first aid, the library has two first aid kits located on the fourth floor. First aid kits are kept in the supply cubicle.
If you are responding to someone who is injured, use your best judgment to evaluate the situation. For example, if someone asks for a band-aid for a paper cut or a minor scrape, you do not need to involve a supervisor. However, in more serious situations or injuries please immediately involve a supervisor. For example, if someone were to trip and hit their head or someone were to pass out from exhaustion during finals week, we would want them to receive appropriate care.
