How do I sign up?

Wall Street Journal:

New York Times: 

  • Go to this URL:
  • Search for and select Vanderbilt University
  • Create an account with your Vanderbilt ( email address. 

Why are you providing this?

The library vets and provides relevant and credible content for coursework, careers, and decision making. The Wall Street Journal and the New York Times are credible sources for news and business information.

I have a subscription already, but want to take advantage of these new free (digital only) subscriptions:

Cancel by calling 1-800-JOURNAL. Then you will be able to activate your sponsored membership (with the same username/email if you wish to do so). 

NY Times: 
Cancel by contacting Customer Care at 1-800-NYTIMES or send an email to if you have questions about your account.

Can I get a print copy with this subscription?


How long will I have the subscription?

While you are a member of the current Vanderbilt community as a student, faculty or staff – alumni will not be able to retain access.

Can I use the App version?

Yes. Once you sign up through the special link, you can download the app and sign in with your new credentials.

I’m faculty, can I post an article in Brightspace?

Yes, you just put a link in your course. All students can have accounts and therefore full access to and articles.

Is there any access to archives?

  • Yes. Some articles used to be published in print only, those are available in the databases Factiva and ProQuest.
  • Unlimited access to the New York Times archived articles from 1851-1922 and 1987-today. Each day/every 24 hours, users may access up to five complimentary articles published between the years 1923 through 1986.

Can I link to a specific article?

  • Yes. Each article has a unique URL

Can I keep my subscription after I graduate?

  • Sorry, no.

Why am I asked to login on some occasions and not others?

  • Your browser cache or history may have cleared itself. You may have to log back on.

The WSJ link you gave isn’t working for me, I am using Microsoft Edge.

  • The link will work on Chrome, Firefox, Safari and IE, but not Edge.

I had a NY Times account, but now I can’t get in!

  • After 364 days, you may activate a new pass by visiting while connected to the Vanderbilt Network.

Does the NYT subscription have any restrictions?

  • Yes, our access does not include e-reader editions, Premium Crosswords, Times Insider or The New York Times Crosswords apps.
