Latin American Studies programs take many different forms and foci across the country. Vanderbilt's LAS program has a particular strength in Brazilian studies, as well as in Mesoamerican anthropology and archaeology, the study of democracy building and economic development, Latin American literature and languages, and African populations in Latin America and the Caribbean. The Center is designated a Comprehensive National Resource Center on Latin America by the U.S. Department of Education.
