Law Interlibrary Loan for VJTL

As noted throughout this guide, you may use Interlibrary Loan to request:

  1. Print books not available at VU
  2. Chapters or pages of books not available at VU
  3. Journal articles not available in VU databases or print holdings

Though additional information regarding Law ILL is available here, below are a few important notes for journal staff members and editors.

  • Use Journal Credentials:  When using ILL to collect items for VJTL source collection, please log in using the below credentials for the journal, not an individual user account.  This ensures that if an item borrowed via ILL is missing, damaged, or overdue, that students are not individually accountable for associated fines.  A common account also allows our staff to direct materials to the common journal shelves or folders.  Current credentials (July 2023):
    • Username: Trans-Law
    • Password: ILLVJTL2023
  • Check Journal Request Queue:  Before placing a request, browse the queue of requested items to ensure that a colleague has not already requested the item, as is common when multiple students are collecting items cited in a single article.
  • Include your contact information in the notes:  Include your own name and email address in the Notes field with your request.  Without this information, our staff are not sure which staff member or editor to notify that they have received a requested item.

Delivery time for items requested via ILL will vary; place ILL requests as far in advance of when you need the item as possible.

Enhanced Summer Service: During the summer, when many students are living and working outside of Nashville, journal staff may also use the law ILL form to request that our staff scan select pages or a chapter from print materials available in the law library.  This service is limited to the summer months; during the academic year, the print volume will be checked out to the journal and placed on the journal shelf.
