Teaching and Learning: Video Creation

T&L resources at Vanderbilt Libraries

Branding

When creating videos for your library follow Vanderbilt's brand guidelines. If you'd like assistance branding your video contact Emily Bush: emily.bush.1@vanderbilt.edu.

Several options for into/outro slides are below. If you're creating a video series consider giving the series its own unique identity.

Contact emily.bush.1@vanderbilt.edu with the name of your tutorial for intro/outro slides.

Considerations

Consider the following before you begin production:

  • Who is your target audience
  • What's the goal of your video?
    • What's the best way to accomplish that goal?
  • Tell a story.
  • Keep to the point.
    • Front load the video with information. There's no need to rehash assumed knowledge.

There's a wealth of other best practices and tips on the Asynchronous Online Learning guide.

Video Storage

You may choose to upload your video to Youtube or Vimeo to share with a wider audience. If your video deals directly with information literacy, media literacy, or research instruction consider sharing with Teaching and Learning for inclusion on our Youtube channel.

For the purposes of preservation and back-up we ask that all videos be uploaded to Fedora -- Teaching and Learning Instructional Videos.

Contact Emily with questions about adding your videos to the T&L Youtube channel or uploading to Fedora emily.bush.1@vanderbilt.edu.
