Founded in 2022, the Dare to Read Collective (formerly the Banned Books Initiative) is a cross-campus organization whose mission is to advocate for the freedom of limitless reading, promote inclusive reading habits, and celebrate the joy of reading.
Campus Partners: Jean & Alexander Heard Libraries, Margaret Cuninggim Women's Center, Peabody College's Department of Teaching and Learning, Peabody College's Office of Student Life, Office of LGBTQI Life, and Student Center for Social Justice & Identity.
From Monday, February 10 through Friday, Februrary 14, head to Peabody and Central Libraries to find your next date--with a banned book! Both libraries will have a display near the circulation desk with completely wrapped books, so you cannot see the titles or authors. Each book will have descriptions written on the wrapping paper, and the reasons for why the book was banned. Grab one that sounds interesting to you, and head to the circulation desk to check it out. Then you can unwrap your blind date and enjoy!

The Edible Books Festival is back again! Join individuals and organizations from across campus (and even the city of Nashville) in this fun, delicious event that celebrates our collective love for food and books. The goal is turn a book into completely edible form. There will be different prize categories, like Funniest/Punniest Book, Most Appetizing, and Best Banned Book.
