Dare to Read Collective

Founded in 2022, the Dare to Read Collective (formerly the Banned Books Initiative) is a cross-campus organization whose mission is to advocate for the freedom of limitless reading, promote inclusive reading habits, and celebrate the joy of reading.   

Campus Partners: Jean & Alexander Heard Libraries, Margaret Cuninggim Women's Center, Peabody College's Department of Teaching and Learning, Peabody College's Office of Student Life, Office of LGBTQI Life, and Student Center for Social Justice & Identity.

10/23 - Unbannable Library Panel and Interactive Exhibit

Wednesday, October 23, 2024, Community Room at Central Library, 419 21st Ave S, Nashville, TN 37203

Join Vanderbilt's Dare to Read Collective on Wednesday, October 23 from 6:00-8:00pm in Central Library for an interactive exhibit display from the Unbannable Library, followed by a panel discussion with some of the local artists who created these books that are too big to ban! From 6:00-6:30, attendees will have to time to view the book displays and talk with the artists, and then from 6:30-8:00 attendees will join in on a panel discussion and Q+A session about book challenges within our local community and how to advocate for the un-banning of books. This event is free and open to the public with free food and drinks provided.
