Class of 1912: Campus Buildings

Campus Buildings

Navigating today's Vanderbilt campus can be a bit of a challenge. Figuring out the quickest route between your dorm, the dining hall and that 8:10 A.M. Calculus class can take some experimenting. Members of the Class of 1912 had it easy. The Vanderbilt campus was smaller and there were fewer buildings, so finding your way around campus was not nearly as stressful. Many members of the Class of 1912 also had the added bonus of living near many of their professors.  In the early 1900's, full or chair professors at Vanderbilt received free housing as part of their salary packages.  What would it be like to have that kind of access to your professors right on campus?
