"Young women will be admitted upon the same conditions as young men." This is the last sentence in the "Requirements for Admission" section of the 1908-1909 Vanderbilt University Catalog. The admissions process was the same for men and women, but the Vanderbilt "experience" was not. For example, female students who were not from the Nashville area had to live in boardinghouses because on campus housing was only offered to male students.

Women were a small minority on Vanderbilt's male dominated campus, but they still made their prescence felt. Stella Scott Vaughn is just one example of these trailblazing alumnae. Read her story here.
