Divinity Library Orientation

  • Print reserves for Div/GDR classes are held behind the service desk at the Divinity Library.  When you come to the desk to get reserve items, we ask that you look them up in Library Catalog (the library catalog) and give us the call number for each item.
  • Loan periods for most items are two hours.
  • All reserve items should be returned to the Divinity Library service desk.
  • Overdue fines for two hour reserves are $.60 per hour.
  • You cannot renew reserve items online; you must return them to the service desk for renewal.
  • The Divinity Library keeps a binder at the service desk that contains syllabi for the current semester.  This may be of help if you are needing to get print reserves and you've forgotten your syllabus.  (Note: we may not have syllabi for all classes.)
  • Electronic reserves are on Blackboard, under the appropriate course.
  • Browse to Blackboard (https://blackboard.vanderbilt.edu) and log in with your VUnet ID and password to access electronic reserves (if any) for your classes.

For many of your classes, you’ll need to get print and audiovisual materials – called reserves – from the Divinity Library service desk.  (Electronic reserves may be offered through OAK or in another way – ask your professor if you have any questions about this.)

To expedite retrieval of reserve items, library workers will need their call numbers.

Two possibilities for looking up reserve items in Library Catalog:

  • Use the computer at the Divinity Library service desk.  Click on the Reserves icon on the desktop to get into the library reserves Web page.
  • Look reserves up on your own computer – just browse to http://Library Catalog.library.vanderbilt.edu/ and click on the Course Reserves link in the red bar near the top of the page.
