The following databases will be of use for various topics related to your research:
- Anthropology Plus This link opens in a new windowPrincipal resource for journal articles, reports, and edited works in the fields of social, cultural, physical, biological, and linguistic anthropology, ethnology, archaeology, folklore, material culture, and interdisciplinary studies. Key resource for the discipline of anthropology. Sources from 19th century to the present.
- AnthroSource This link opens in a new windowArchive of all publications of the American Anthropological Association.
- ProQuest This link opens in a new windowSearches all the ProQuest databases silultaneously or limit to specific databases such as Alt-Press Watch, PRISMA, or Music Periodicals Index.
- JSTOR This link opens in a new windowLarge and important archive for academic journals, books, and primary sources in the humanities, social sciences, and sciences. Many journals do not have current issues.
- Communication & Mass Media Complete (CMMC) This link opens in a new windowSearches articles in journals on in communication and mass media.
Keyword vs. Subject Searching

- Nexis Uni (formerly LexisNexis Academic) This link opens in a new windowNews and newspaper stories, federal and state court cases, US law reviews and journals, company profiles and directories. Company Dossier; data on public figures.
- Access World News Research Collection This link opens in a new windowLocal, national, and international news sources since the 1980s.
- Ethnic NewsWatch This link opens in a new windowJournals, magazines, and newspapers from ethnic and minority presses. National and regional publications including African American, Caribbean, African, Hispanic, Jewish, and Native peoples.
Google Scholar provides access to "peer-reviewed papers, theses, books, abstracts and articles, from academic publishers, professional societies, preprint repositories, universities and other scholarly organizations."
What Google Scholar does not contain, in most cases, is the fulltext of the articles -- but it does work with the library's Findit@VU service to help you get to the fulltext when available. If you are on campus, Findit@VU will automatically appear -- but if you are off campus it won't. Not clicking on Findit@VU may lead to you receiving a message indicating that you must purchase the article to view it.
