Private Company Resources

Unlike public companies, private companies are not regulated by the federal government. Therefore, it is at the discretion of a private company if, and what, they want to disclose about themselves. It can be more difficult and time consuming to locate information about private companies. The following tips and subscription resources should be of assistance:

  • In your research, you will probably come across the names of executives in employed by your private company. Use the Google Advanced Search function to search for their names and their company name to see if there are any interviews with them that might give greater insight into the company's operations.
  • Local media often reports on developments within businesses in their region, as it may affect the local economy and residents. Identify local media for the private company you've identified, then search the publication for reporting on that company.
    • NOTE: All current Vanderbilt students, staff, and faculty now have digital access to The Nashville Business Journal. Use your Vanderbilt e-mail address to register for an individual account. Includes the Book of Lists where you can get an in-depth look at the largest and most influential players defining local economies. The VU subscription also includes access to The Business Journals for 46 other US cities.
