Find UN Documents: Sources of UN Materials

The United Nations is a tremendous organization and as such, navigating documents and publications generated by UN entities can feel overwhelming.  Though some older documents have not (yet) been digitized and are only available in print or microform formats (for such materials, search our library catalog or WorldCat), much UN material is now freely available on the web, and there are many guides to assist researchers in navigating UN digital collections.  This guide suggests resources for Vanderbilt patrons seeking both electronic and print documents and publications by and about the United Nations, and links to guides offering more in-depth discussion of the UN's work and materials.

General UN Databases and Resources

From the UN's main document homepage, researchers will find links to certain foundational documents, such as the UN Charter and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, and links to document collections associated with certain core UN entities, including the General Assembly, Security Council, Economic and Social Council, Secretariat, International Court of Justice, and Trusteeship Council.  The latter typically direct users to collections housed on the sites of those entities, or as compiled by the UN's Dag Hammarskjöld Library.  The site also provides links to the UN's major publications and document repositories, some of which are described in this guide.
