As the scholarly publishing landscape has grown more complex with the advent of new publishing models, the Jean & Alexander Heard Libraries has negotiated transformative (read-and-publish) agreements with several publishers to better support faculty, staff, and students wanting to publish their research open access. This guide provides information about Vanderbilt’s agreements with specific publishers and the author instructions.
Here are some key terms and definitions to familiarize yourself with before viewing the publisher information.
- Open access (OA) publishing - There are various OA models, but all aim to provide free access to published articles through a variety of funding sources other than traditional journal subscriptions. For more information about open access publishing, visit the Open Access Guide.
- Article processing charge (APC) - Sometimes called a publication fee, it is the fee an author pays to a publisher to have their article published as open access.
- Transformative agreement - "seeks to shift the contracted payment from a library or group of libraries to a publisher away from subscription-based reading and towards open access publishing." - The Scholarly Kitchen
