Italian 1001: Made-in-Italy: Identities, Cultures, and Globalization in Italian Fashion and Design

The Venice Biennale has been for over 120 years one of the most prestigious cultural institutions in the world. Established in 1895, the Biennale has an attendance today of over 500,000 visitors at the Art Exhibition. The history of the La Biennale di Venezia dates back from 1895, when the first International Art Exhibition was organized.

The Fabric of Cultures (FoC) is a pedagogical, research lab and platform that interprets fashion, clothing and textile from a historical, theoretical and globalized perspective as well as in mediated forms such as screen media. The FoC is the result of several years of research, teaching, exhibition curating, and program building within CUNY.

From NYC: Made-in-Italy: a concept, a brand, a lifestyle, a multimedia story. Multiple narratives embracing craftsmanship, tradition, innovation. Our Lab, an observatory in progress, was conceived and developed in courses on Italian culture that focuse on the relationship between Made-in-Italy, the story of the nation, its poliedric identity, its cities and regions. Particular attention is devoted to fashion, design, food, cinema, all bound up with technology, the arts, the science of well being. Respecting the environment, human beings, work. We dedicate our attention to these experiences as we journey to the beauty and the archives of personal and collective memory.

Founded in February 2011 (originally as Fashion Week Dates), Fashion Week Online is the first website wholly dedicated to organizing the international fashion week calendar, hosting live streams from the “Big 4,” and helping promote and demystify fashion week for the press and general public.

Italian photographer, best-known worldwide for designing controversial advertising campaigns for Italian brand Benetton, from 1982 to 2000. Toscani was born in Milan, and took up photography following the steps of his father, Fedele Toscani, a photoreporter for the newspaper Corriere della Sera. After obtaining his diploma at the Kunstgewerbeschule Zürich, he started working with different magazines, including Elle, Vogue, L'Uomo Vogue and Harper's Bazaar.
