Search for journals/periodicals by title through the library's Journal Search page.
Request items from the Annex to be delivered to the law library.
Visit other campus libraries to access their physical holdings.
VU items can be renewed via Library Catalog, at the circulation desk, or through an email request to your journal liaison (see the box to the left for your librarian liaison).
If you pick up a book that another person has requested, then be sure to communicate that to the other cite checkers and to the managing editor.
ILL borrowing for cite checking assignments:
Each journal has one designated interlibrary loan account to request items for cite checking assignments.
Log-in information and passwords are communicated to managing editors through the journal’s liaison librarian.
ILL requests should always be made through these journal-specific accounts, not the individual student's account.
When requesting items, the individual student must provide their name and email address in the notes field of the request form. Without this information, the request cannot be processed.
Check Vanderbilt holdings before placing requests for ILL; if VU has an item requested via ILL, then your request will be canceled.
Required fields for online ILL requests are loan type; title (for periodicals, journal and article titles); page range; publication date/edition; deadline (if relevant). Requests can be sent via email if you experience difficulty.
Include page ranges whenever you only need to see a portion of a publication. Entire volumes must be shipped, but lending libraries can scan and send chapters or passages quickly via email.
Most lenders will loan for < 1 month. Renewal requests must be sent at least one week in advance of due date or item must be returned.
Perma helps cite checkers to create permanent records of web sources.
A link is created for each new source and that link will never break, preventing link rot.
https://perma.cc/ and https://perma.cc/docs#overview.
Registrars are the law librarian journal liaisons.
Journals are Organizations and individual students are organizational users.
Organizations can add new users.
Each Journal maintains its own users.
Study Carrels
Reserved for all journals annually.
Items should be checked out to the appropriate journal when cite checkers intend to leave the item on the carrel.
Report unauthorized use of your carrels or other concerns to the circulation desk or to your liaison.
