Ancient Theatre Archive: A Virtual Reality Tour of Greek and Roman Archtiecture
An outstanding visual resource for the study of ancient Greek and Roman theatres, and is an ideal introduction to the study of theatre architecture. Theatres in modern Turkey are given the most attention, presenting sites at Aspendos, Aphrodisias, Bodrum, Ephesus, Hierapolis, Miletus, Pergamon and Priene.
Aphrodisias
The website for the archaeological excavations at Aphrodisias (in the ancient Roman province of Caria, in modern Turkey) undertaken by the Institute of Fine Arts in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts and Science at New York University. Introductory information is provided on the history of the site and the excavations, and then the user may access more detailed pages on key areas of the archaeological site.
Corinth Computer Project
The project was founded in 1988 with the aim of developing a computerized architectural and topographical survey of the Roman colony of Corinth. The project is particularly concerned with uncovering information about the different stages of the city's development and the impact of non-Roman influences, including Hellenistic, Byzantine and Venetian. There is also an emphasis on research into Roman strategies of city planning.
Ephesos
This is the Österreichisches Archäologisches Institut website relating to excavations at the ancient city of Ephesos in Turkey. The website provides a contextual background of the settlement's history and its previous excavation since 1895, but is mainly concerned with recent excavation and archaeological research - in particular the 1999 and 2000 excavations undertaken by the Austrian Archaeological Institute (Österreichisches Archäologisches Institut).
