Online Video and Audio Content from the VU Libraries: Home

Media Course Reserves:

During the current pandemic, it is impractical to place physical materials on course reserves for the fall semester. This guide contains links to the wide array of streaming video content available from library databases. This content can be linked directly from Brightspace courses. If a film or documentary is not available from our databases, the library will attempt to license it through another vendor.

Unfortunately, some titles are not available for streaming. If another title cannot be substituted, educators can use some exemptions to copyright to extract clips of videos and add them to a course management system. The DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) allows a narrow exemption for breaking copy-protection measures on physical media. A Fair Use analysis should be done to help determine the amount of video that can be digitized. The staff at the VU Libraries areavailable to help with questions regarding copyright, and the Center for Teaching can provide advice on using Kaltura to create video clips for use in Brightspace.
