The Walker Management Library is excited to offer this Data Visualization Workshop.

Tableau is an interactive data visualization software used by many industries, ranging from consulting to software publishing. Firms like LinkedIn, Cisco Systems, JP Morgan Chase, Deloitte, and Accenture use Tableau to create and share dynamic data visualizations.

Power BI is a business analytics tool created by Microsoft that lets you analyze and visualize data from a variety of sources. It has direct integration with Microsoft excel, making it easy to clean and visualize your data. It is free for anyone to use, and notable companies that have adopted Power BI include Walmart, ExxonMobil, Apple, and Costco.
 

Students who participate in this training will learn to import, merge, manipulate, and visualize data in Tableau and Power BI.

Please install Tableau Desktop for Students. You will need to register with your Vanderbilt e-mail address. You can download the Desktop client here. Once you have installed the client you will need to enter the key you receive by e-mail when you registered as a student. Please e-mail us at ManagementLibrary@Vanderbilt.Edu if you experience any issues.

Our course will utilize asynchronous learning modules in the Tableau Learning Path, which you get access to after registering for Tableau for Students (you should receive an email with product keys for both Tableau Desktop and Tableau eLearning.

Tableau actively updates this learning path, which normally costs a fee, but is included free when you register for Tableau for Students.

We would also like you to install Power BI Desktop. You can download Power BI here. Power BI is free to use, and we highly recommend using the desktop version.

Students should also complete the Tutorial: From Excel workbook to stunning report in Power BI Desktop.
The tutorial takes about 30 minutes, and will cover: loading data, cleaning data with transformations, creating data relationships, and creating three unique visuals.
