Tools for Citing in IEEE Format

Your proposal must be written in IEEE format.  This means that both the formatting of the body of the proposal (e.g., paragraph headers, in-text citations) and the reference list need to be follow IEEE style.   There are two ways to approach this:

Manually

With shorter papers, this can be easily done.  Use an online guide to IEEE and format your proposal according to the instructions and examples.  These web sites have good IEEE style guides:

Using Citation Management Software

Citation management software allows you to build a database of all the books, articles and web sites you plan to use in your paper.  It then integrates with Word to format your paper and generate the reference list in whatever style you need.  There are a variety of choices available, but the VU Libraries purchases a subscription to Mendeley for the whole campus.   Use the guide below or ask a librarian to get set up.
