AADS 2166 - African American Influences on Country Music

The Miko Marks Collection, 2005-2024, consists of papers, photographs, audiovisual material, and artifacts of singer Miko Marks.

Contains songwriting notebooks, photographs, CDs, and outfits from African-American country music artist Rissi Palmer.

Materials from the career of singer-songwriter Allison Russell. Collection IN-PROCESS.

Consists of audiovisual materials, photographs, press clippings, legal documents, production notes, promotional posters, and musical instruments created by and related to the life, musical career, and posthumous celebration of Otha Turner (1907-2003). Turner was one of the masters of fife and drum music from northern Mississippi.

The Dom Flemons American Songster Collection (110 linear feet) consists of audio recordings, materials related to the creation of the album Black Cowboys, reference materials, drafts and liner notes, correspondence, ephemera and tour materials, press and promotional materials, photographs, folk art and fan art, garments, artifacts, framed items, posters, books, digital files (not yet available) and musical instruments.

Contains numerous document formats all pertaining to Country and Western music. The contents date from the mid-1960s to the early 1970s, with only a few exceptions.

The collection is composed of a wide variety of items of historical and musical interest. The correspondence dates roughly from the 1950s and 1960s and varies from fan letters to promotional campaigns. Clippings from the same time profile performers and personalities, the Opry, and the music industry in Nashville. The files include a representative collection of country and western magazines.

The WSM Radio & TV collection is composed of correspondence, photographs, scripts of radio programs, and promotional material. It is stored in thirteen manuscript boxes, eight of which contain scripts of radio programs. Dates of the collection range from 1928 to 1966 with a large portion of the material dated in the 1940s.
