Vanderbilt’s Agreements Supporting Open Access Publishing

As the scholarly publishing landscape has grown more complex with the advent of new publishing models, the Jean & Alexander Heard Libraries has negotiated transformative (read-and-publish) agreements with several publishers to better support faculty, staf

Institute of Physics (IOP)

IOP publishes peer-reviewed science journals.

  • Vanderbilt's agreement waives the article processing charges (APCs) for open access.
  • There are some titles that charge fees (e.g. page charges) which are not covered by this agreement. Authors who choose to publish in these titles are charged these fees regardless of whether an article is published OA or on a subscription bases. Some journals are society owned titles (IOP is the exclusive partner publisher for these titles), therefore it is not in IOP’s power to waive these additional fees. The following two journals may charge these fees:
    • Japanese Journal of Applied Physics
    • Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific
  • Articles are published under a Creative Commons license.
  • Eligible article types are research papers, review articles, special issue papers, and letters.
  • Vanderbilt's agreement includes all journals in List A, B, C, and D. To view a list of the included journals, please visit Eligible Journals for Transformative Agreements.
  • Please note some journals are excluded from this agreement.

Instructions for Authors

How does it work?

  • Only corresponding authors are eligible.
  • Publishers use a variety of methods and tools to confirm eligibility. Whenever possible, we have identified eligible affiliated groups that might appear in the publisher's list (e.g. Peabody or Vanderbilt University Medical Center); however, to ensure that an author is recognized, select Vanderbilt University as the affiliation and use a Vanderbilt email address at the point of submission/acceptance. It is also recommended to include one's ORCID iD.
  • IOP will identify articles eligible for open access publishing at no charge and notify the corresponding author. The corresponding author has five days to opt out.
  • For detailed instructions on submitting a manuscript, please visit A Guide to Submitting Under a Transformative Agreement.
