Accessing Bloomberg and Creating a Bloomberg Account

To access the ESG material needed for your class, you will have to use the terminals in the library to access Bloomberg, then create a login if you don't already have one. Please do the following:

  • Login to the library computer with your VUNet ID and password
  • Choose "Bloomberg Workstation" from the drop-down menu.
  • Launch Bloomberg by clicking on the Bloomberg icon.
  • Hit the red <Pause/Break/CONN Default> key
  • You will see the yellow highlighted Login Name and Password fields. Leave the fields empty and press <GO>.
  • Follow the prompts for creating a login. You will need your cell phone (set to silent) to complete this.

Installing the Bloomberg Add-In for Excel

You will need to make sure that the Bloomberg add-in for Excel is activated within your user profile. You may need to activate it multiple times as you work on the Owen VM's (Virtual Machine) as you may be accessing a different VM each time you log on. To add and activate the Bloomberg add-in, please follow these steps:

  • Open Excel and see if the Bloomberg tab is visible.
  • Go to the Start Menu in the Windows environment, then click on All Programs.
  • Click on Bloomberg, then select "Install Office Add-In."
  • Go back to Excel to see if the Bloomberg tab is now available.
  • If not, please do the following:
    • Restart Excel.
    • Go to the Developer tab in Excel, click on COM add-ins and make sure that "Bloomberg Ribbon" is checked.
    • Go to File within Excel, then Options, then Add-Ins. Make sure that Bloomberg is listed under the Active Add-Ins section.
    • Ask a library staff member for additional assistance.
