Library Policies:

Conduct Policy:

We do our best to create a welcoming environment for all who use the Music Library.  We ask that visitors be respectful of one another.  Many undergraduate students and faculty use this library for study and research, so unruly behavior (i.e., yelling, running, etc.) will not be tolerated.  Parents and legal guardians of minors are responsible for supervising the behavior of their children.  If an issue arises with a Pre-College student's behavior, we will notify Pam Schneller, Associate Dean for Pre-College and Adult Programs.  For more information, please see the Jean and Alexander Heard Library's Conduct Policy.

Computer Usage:

The Music Library does not control information available over the Internet, and is not responsible for its content.  Users should be aware that Internet sites may contain offensive or controversial material.  Parents or legal guardians of minors are responsible for monitoring the library activities of their children.  Users of workstations are in a public building, and are expected to show consideration for others.

Because the Music Library has a limited number of computer stations, priority is given for academic uses (i.e., writing papers, using library databases, etc.).  If other users are waiting for a workstation, you may be asked to give up your computer if you are engaged in non-academic computing (i.e., using Facebook, checking e-mail).

All users must abide by the terms of Vanderbilt University's Computer Privileges and Responsibilities Policy.

Food and Drink Policy:

Non-alcoholic drinks in spill-proof containers or sports bottles are permitted.

Packaged or wrapped snack foods are permitted at study carrels but not near electronic equipment or computer workstations. Hot meals or messy, aromatic food (e.g., hoagies, pizza, salads, soup) are not permitted in the library. If you enter the Music Library with these types of foods, you will be asked to use the seminar room (pending availability) or exit the library.

Food and drink pose a potential risk to library collections, equipment, and furnishings. We ask that you act responsibly when consuming food and drink in the library. Please deposit your garbage in the trash cans and clean up after yourself.

  General Information About the Library:

Who Can Use the Music Library?

Any student enrolled in the Pre-College Program at Blair can apply for a library card.  Families are welcome to visit the library while children are in lessons or ensemble.

How Do I Get a Library Card?

Stop by the Music Library Service Desk to pick up an application form.  There is a one-time fee of $5.00 to get your card.  All students under the age of 18 need to have their parent or guardian sign the form before their cards can be issued.

How Long Can I Borrow Materials?

Pre-College students may borrow books and scores for 28 days, and may renew these items up to 4 times.  All audiovisual materials circulate for 2 hours, and are for in-library use only.  You can check out headphones and listen/watch these materials at one of our AV stations.

When is the Music Library Open?

Normal semester hours are Monday-Thursday, 8 am-10 pm; Friday, 8 am-5 pm; Saturday, CLOSED; Sunday, 2-10 pm.

Summer hours begin on Friday, May 1, 2009.  The library is open Monday-Friday from 9am-5 pm, and is CLOSED on both Saturday and Sunday.

Hours vary during Vanderbilt holiday breaks - check the Music Library's homepage for more information.

Can I Use a Computer?

Two computer workstations are reserved for Pre-College student use, Monday-Friday, from 3-6:00 pm.  Priority is given to academic computing needs at all other workstations - see our policy on Computer Usage in the left-hand column for more information.
