Getting Started

 

As a Vanderbilt student you can:

Black Power Comes to Nashville

The clip below is the local news outlet interviewing Stokely Carmichael and H. Rap Brown in 1967 in Nashville,TN. Carmichael was in town because he was speaking at the 1967 IMPACT lecture series held at Vanderbilt. The Vanderbilt students chose to invite him and Martin Luther King Jr to talk about "the Negro issue".   A rebellion ensued after police violence was inflicted on the citizens of North Nashville during Carmichael's visit.
