Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SoTL): Finding Articles

Finding Scholarly Articles

The following databases will help you find scholarly articles.

Alert Services

Alert Services, also known as Current Awareness Services, are web delivery services that you can use to keep up to date with the latest articles, journals, or books in your area of interest.

You can control the amount of information you receive and how often it is delivered to you. After you set up an alert, you will receive regular electronic notifications of new material delivered to your inbox.

Finding Surveys, Measures, & Questionnaires

These databases can help you find reviews and articles about specific assessments.

Google Scholar

Getting Full-Text -- Free

What is  ?

FindIt@VU provides direct links from a database citation to the full text of the article (if available) and other supporting resources.

You'll also see FindIt@VU buttons in Acorn.

A FAQ for FindIt@VU is also available.

Is Google Scholar asking you to pay?

In most cases, Google Scholar does not contain the fulltext of the articles -- but on-campus it does work with the Library's Findit@VU service to help you get to the fulltext when available.

If you are off campus, you may receive a message indicating that you can purchase the article.

To avoid having to pay for content that the library already subscribes to, be sure to set your Google Scholar "Library links" (on left side of screen) so the Findit@VU link will show. Below you will find the settings currently used on the Vanderbilt campus:

  • Vanderbilt University - findit@VU
  • Open WorldCat - Library Search
