Styles in the Social Sciences

There are quite a few different ways to cite resources in your paper. The citation style often depends on the academic discipline involved.

For example:

  • APA style is often used by Education and Psychology
  • ASA style was established by the American Sociological Association
  • APSA style is used by the American Political Science Association
These are some citation styles used in the Social Sciences, yet there are many more styles.

Check with your professor to make sure you use the required style. And whatever style you choose, BE CONSISTENT!

Video Tutorials

The University of South Carolina Aiken has created a playlist of videos to demonstrate American Sociology Association (ASA) Citation Style.
