What is a Literature Review?

According to the sixth edition of the APA Publication Manual, a literature review is "a critical evaluation of material that has already been published."  As one embarks on creating a literature review, it is important to note that the grouping of components within a literature review can be arranged according to the author's discretion.  However, it is important for the author to ensure the review reflects current APA publication standards.
