MUSL 3100 - Music of the 20th & 21st Centuries: Home

This research guide is designed to help students enrolled in MUSL 239 to successfully complete their research and information literacy assignments for the course.

Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of MUSL 3100, you will be able to:

  • Identify and use appropriate information sources to research twentieth and twenty-first century musical works;
  • Employ effective searching techniques for locating books and articles in the Library Catalog;
  • Locate articles in discipline-specific databases such as RILM;
  • Use Zotero to correctly cite sources according to the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th ed.

Listening Guide Pre-Assignment:

This semester, you will have two in-class information literacy sessions. During the first, we will identify and use information sources to locate appropriate information sources for your listening guide. The second will focus on using Zotero to generate footnotes and your bibliography according to the Chicago Manual of Style. You will submit a bibliography of 3-5 sources via Blackboard by Thursday, Sept. 5. This will act as a pre-check to be sure that you are selecting appropriate sources and that you can generate a bibliography with Zotero.
